Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues update on Manchester United technical director search

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he expects Manchester United to make an announcement regarding their search for a technical director 'soon'.

United are keen to appoint a technical director who will be in charge of player recruitment and implementing a detailed transfer strategy at Old Trafford.

The role of a technical director to oversee both incoming and outgoing transfers is a hugely important role in a modern-day football club and the likes of Paul Mitchell, Darren Fletcher, Rio Ferdinand and Mike Phelan have all been linked with the vacancy.

It remains to be seen which route United will go down with the appointment, but Solskjaer insists the club is moving in the right direction in regards to filling the position.

"We're having regular meetings," the Norwegian told Sky Sports.

"I think the club is on the right track and we'll probably announce something soon."

Speaking on Friday morning, the United manager also issued an update in regards to the summer transfer plans and insisted that all signings would be vetoed by him.

"I'll have a final say if a player comes in or goes out," Solskjaer said.

"And we've got regular meetings. I'm happy with the way it's going and we're supposed to sign 250 players because you're all writing about players we should sign, so hopefully we can get players in you have written about as well. So you never know."
