Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues transfer warning to Manchester United players

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned Manchester United players that he will be adopting a 'ruthless' approach in the summer transfer window.

The Norwegian manager is hoping to overhaul the playing squad at the end of the season and insists that he is not afraid of making big decisions when he considers which players should leave Old Trafford.

United are aiming to rejuvenate their squad in the coming months and Solskjaer acknowledges that he has a lot of tough decisions to make when it comes to squad retention.

“My job is to work for the club,” he said.

“I have to manage for the club, and manage the players, yes. You give people a chance, but sometimes, you’ve got to be ruthless and say: ‘Sorry but you had your chance.’ I’m not afraid to do that.”

A big factor in United's recruitment could be whether or not they qualify for the Champions League, however the manager believes that turning their fortunes around is down to more than just signing the right players.

He added: "I know Manchester United is something players would love to experience.

"Manchester United will always be a dream for so many. There might be players where Champions League football (solely) matters for them, and they might not be the right people.

"We've got to get it right on the pitch with the ones we have. It's not just about signing players."
