Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told he 'isn't the right man' as Manchester United 'line up move for Brendan Rodgers'

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories which you might have missed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under mounting pressure regarding his job and speculation of other managers coming in hasn't quietened. Brendan Rodgers is the latest name to be linked with the position.

Further scrutiny has been put on Solskjaer from various pundits and Sky Sports' Jamie Redknapp has been giving his thoughts on the United manager.

Edinson Cavani is also being linked with a move away from the club.

United make move for Rodgers

Manchester United have lined-up Brendan Rodgers as a potential replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if he gets sacked.

According to ESPN, United are assessing alternative options in the event of the Norwegian being unable to halt a disastrous run of form. Rodgers has impressed senior figures at Old Trafford with his work at the King Power Stadium, where he won the FA Cup last season.

The report also says Mauricio Pochettino has his admirers within the United boardroom, but a move for the PSG boss is rated as 'unlikely'.

Rating: I really don't want United to make a move for Rodgers. He managed Liverpool and yeah, he may have done impressive things in his career, but United need the best in class. I don't think he is, even though I respect him as a coach.

Solskjaer 'isn't the right man' - Redknapp

Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp, has claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'isn't the right man' to take Manchester United forward.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Redknapp said: "They need to know when they’re not doing well and that’s not the case right now. He’s going to sometimes upset players, make sure they’re on their toes… I’m not sure Ole has that personality.

"If you lose 5-0 at home, there isn’t a manager in the world who wouldn’t come under massive pressure.

"I can’t say I’ve ever been sold on Solskjaer as the United manager if I’m brutally honest. He’s done an OK job but we’re talking about Man Utd.

"You want the best person in charge of your club and I don’t think Ole is that man. I’ve got a load of respect for him but you want the best.

"United want to win titles but players have to respect the manager, and when you look at who he’s up against and how he got the job in the first place… you have to have the best and I don’t believe he’s the right man to take this club forward."

Rating: A lot of people have their opinions on Solskjaer and Redknapp does raise some important issues. I won't call for a manager to be sacked, but I do agree that I struggle to see how United's manager can carry on with everything that's been leaked this week.

Boca Juniors 'dream' of Edinson Cavani

I would really like to see Edinson Cavani start against Tottenham because he's still such an integral part of Solskjaer's team. It's going to be a sad day when he leaves Old Trafford.

A new story from Argentine outlet Depo (via SportWitness) says the 34-year-old continues to be a target for Boca Juniors.

It’s claimed that club vice-president Juan Roman Riquelme ‘dreams’ of making three signings to strengthen their squad, and Cavani of one of them.

Cavani's been frequently named as a ‘pipe-dream’, but the signing has never happened.

However, they note that he’s been ‘demoted’ following Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at United, and that’s an advantage to Boca Juniors.

Rating: Who wouldn't dream of having Edinson Cavani in their team? He's unbelievable and I don't want him to leave. But, if he does decide to move, there's perhaps no fitting way to end his career than to play in his native South America.
