Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified two strikers he wants to sign in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The Red Devils are looking extremely light up top this season after failing to replacing departing duo Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
Anthony Martial is currently out injured and Marcus Rashford was forced off against West Ham, leaving Solskjaer without a first team forward.
United are in desperate need of strengthening their attack in January, and will be handed a hefty transfer budget to land the right man, Ed Woodward has confirmed.
A number of strikers have been linked with a move to United in recent months.
But according to The Independent, Solskjaer has whittled it down to just two players: Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele and Juventus' Mario Mandzukic.
Dembele has featured just once for Barcelona in La Liga this season but would command a huge £100million transfer fee.
Mandzukic would be considerably cheaper but at 33 there are question marks over whether he would be a shrewd purchase.
Woodward ensured Solskjaer will get time to get it right at United and be given money to spend while announcing United's annual financial figures on Tuesday.
"We and our growing fanbase demand success," said Woodward. "Success means winning trophies. That target and that standard has never changed for Manchester United.
"The progress we have made on the business side underpins the continued investment in the football side.
He added: "We'll continue to make the necessary investments to make this happen, across our first-team players, our Academy and our recruitment department. This long-term approach to building the squad is the right one."
