Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'identifies top summer transfer target' at Manchester United

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has targeted Leicester's Harry Maguire as his top defensive target for the upcoming summer transfer window, according to reports.

The centre-back was thought to be on Jose Mourinho's wish list last summer but a move for the England defender failed to materialise.

Solskjaer, whose 14 wins in 19 games in charge of United have put him in pole position for the permanent role, is reported by the Star to have told the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to make a £65 million bid for the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, a disagreement over wages is reported to be the sticking point in negotiations over a new contract for United goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Mirror claim that United are prepared to hand the 28-year-old a deal worth £350,000 per week - almost double his current earnings - but De Gea's camp are said to be holding out for an offer nearer to the £500,000 taken home by Alexis Sanchez each week.

A similar issue is said to be preventing a development in United's attempts to tie Juan Mata and Ander Herrera to new deals at the club.

The Spanish pair's respective contracts at Old Trafford expire this summer and they have been eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs since January 1 after entering the final six months of their deals.

Herrera was linked with a move to PSG on Thursday night but MEN Sport reported that the midfielder is likely to extend his five-year stay at Old Trafford.

The Mirror claim that both Herrera and Mata's representatives are holding out for higher wage offerings at the club before signing new deals.
