Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has problem to solve with Man Utd's right back 'for next 10 years'

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot is reportedly set to return to Old Trafford when his loan to AC Milan expires, with the Serie A side not interested in making the move permanent.

A report from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claims that loanees Dalot, Brahim Diaz and Soualiho Meite are all expected to return to their parent clubs at the end of the season, with Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori the only player Milan want to sign permanently.

Former United boss Jose Mourinho once tipped Dalot to emulate Gary Neville by becoming the club's first choice right-back for the next decade.

"The kid Diogo, fantastic," Mourinho said after Dalot made his first start for United in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in December 2018.

"I think Gary Neville must be thinking that Manchester United now has a very good right-back for 10 years."

However, just two weeks later Mourinho was sacked as United manager and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, initially on an interim basis.

Solskjaer then signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in the summer and Dalot has struggled for game time ever since.

The 21-year-old made the move to the San Siro this season in search of regular first-team football and he has made 19 appearances in all competitions.

However, Dalot has been an unused substitute in five of Milan's last six Serie A games and, with the club said to be unwilling to make the loan move permanent, Solskjaer will have a decision to make on the defender's future in the summer.

United are reportedly keen on bringing in competition for Wan-Bissaka, with the likes of Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier and Norwich City star Max Aarons linked with moves to Old Trafford.

Dalot could either compete with Wan-Bissaka once he returns or Solskjaer could look to move him on and bring in a different option.
