Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hails two Man Utd stars as 'world class'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford as "world class" after the return of both players from injury.

The duo made their first appearances in months against Tottenham on Friday, with Rashford starting the fixture, while Pogba played a pivotal role off the bench.

Their respective comebacks have boosted United's squad for the season run-in, and Solskjaer is enthused by the standard of players now at his disposal.

"With so many players back fit now, everybody can see the quality we have in our ranks," Solskjaer said in his matchday programme ahead of the clash vs Sheffield United.

"The players who came on at Spurs made a difference, which shows you the level of competition we've got in the squad now.

"Even before lockdown we were on a strong run of form. Now we're able to call upon world-class players like Paul and Marcus returning from injury.

"Paul could tell you more than most about our evolution, because the team he's rejoining now is a different team to the one that started the season. Our development is there for all to see."

United followed up their draw at Spurs with a convincing 3-0 win against Sheffield Utd on Wednesday.

Pogba made his first start for the club since September, while Rashford set up two goals.

It was Anthony Martial who grabbed the headlines though with a hat-trick of goals from inside the box - the first treble for a United player in the Premier League since 2013.

Speaking after the match, Solskjaer explained to Sky Sports how he had been working closely with Martial to improve his finishing.

"We have worked a lot with Anthony on his movement in there and to be patient in there because he's a quality player who can drop out of the box and get some touches," Solskjaer said.

"But that's where you score the goals, and the last one of course was very nice combination play and a great finish.

"We work with the boys on finishing all the time. We could have scored more today, so we don't want to miss chances where we could score and Anthony was very efficient."
