Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives verdict on Anthony Martial position switch for Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is 'happy' with how Anthony Martial is playing back on the left wing for Manchester United.

The French forward was moved to the wing during the weekend win over West Brom and started the Champions League match against Istanbul Basaksehir on the left flank on Tuesday night.

Martial looked rejuvenated as he tormented former United defender Rafael da Silva with summer signing Edinson Cavani deployed as the central striking option instead.

Marcus Rashford completed the attacking trio on the right wing and delivered an impressive display of his own, although there is still a clear need for a natural option in that position.

Solskjaer says he is happy with how Cavani and fellow summer signing Donny van de Beek have settled in, but was also full of praise for Martial in his change of roles.

"The two are getting used to how we want them to play," Solskjaer told BT Sport of Cavani and Van de Beek. "Donny can play in different positions and Edinson is a good old fashioned number nine and we haven't had that for a while and I was happy with how Anthony [Martial] played off the left.

"I felt first half we saw the intent straight away, they wanted to play and they enjoyed it. It's a Champions League night at Old Trafford, you'd expect them to enjoy themselves. We scored some very nice goals, I'm pleased."
