Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives update on Mason Greenwood ahead of Man United's Crystal Palace clash

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on under-fire Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood ahead of Saturday's clash with Crystal Palace.

Greenwood was removed from the England squad along with Manchester City’s Phil Foden for breaching coronavirus protocols, and upon his return, it has been reported he received a stern talking to from his club boss.

Having dealt with the issue behind closed doors, Solskjaer is backing Greenwood ahead of his side's clash with Palace tomorrow, though the Norwegian boss admits his young striker is in need of 'managing'.

“Yeah, he’s part of the group," said Solskjaer in his pre-match press conference. "With the testing and COVID protocols, he trained by himself for a little while and as soon as possible he’s a big part of this group.

"This is where we feels at home, not comfortable, we challenge him. We have got people looking after him and we have had a plan with him throughout the season and it worked really well.

"He needed a rest. I look at the interview he did for the FA and he’s talking about looking at this season when it’s over and it’s the first day of new season, he’s an 18-year-old kid who needs managing.”

Greewood scored 17 and assisted five last season for United across all competitions, playing a key part in the Reds' resurgence in the back-end of the season.

Unlike Palace, United didn't play last weekend, giving the 18-year-old a little more time to get back into contention following the England fiasco.
