Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives up on two Man Utd transfer targets

Manchester United have reportedly given up on signing Jadon Sancho or Declan Rice this summer.

The duo were high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's list of potential targets as he looks to British talents to lead his Old Trafford revival.

But after the Red Devils missed out on Champions League qualification, the Evening Standard claim Solskjaer has "reluctantly accepted" the pair are out of reach at present.

Sancho looks set to remain at Borussia Dortmund for at least another season, whilst Rice penned a long-term contract at West Ham in December and has shown no signs he wants to leave despite his breakthrough season.

United are still set to continue monitoring the pair with hopes they could become future additions.

But for the time being, attentions have been turned elsewhere with Daniel James on the verge of becoming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing.

The Swansea winger underwent a medical at Carrington on Thursday ahead of a £15m move to Old Trafford.

Their search for a centre-back is still ongoing, with the club looking set to miss out on Matthijs de Ligt and Kalidou Koulibaly as they turn attentions to Ruben Dias and other potential targets.

They are also facing competition from Liverpool and Tottenham for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, plus James Maddison has declared he wants to stay at Leicester .

Solskjaer is said to be determined to land at least two new signings before bringing his squad back for pre-season, when their rebuild will continue.

They are being put off paying £50m for Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Place, and their interest in Newcastle's Sean Longstaff is yet to lead to an official bid being lodged.
