Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives Scott McTominay injury update after missing Burnley vs Man Utd

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided an update on injured Scott McTominay ahead of their clash with Burnley .

McTominay was ruled out of the squad at Turf Moor after suffering a knee injury against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

He was withdrawn at half-time in the 4-1 win and seen leaving the ground on crutches as Solskjaer admitted to concerns over the injury.

Ahead of their latest game just two days later, Solskjaer confirmed it "didn't look good" but they were awaiting news on the full extent of the damage.

Solskjaer told MUTV: "We've looked at him but we haven't done the full scan yet, so over the weekend we'll know more.

"It didn't look good but we hope he's going to heal quickly."

Paul Pogba, who replaced McTominay two days earlier, was also left out of the squad entirely.

Solskjaer revealed he did not want to take any risks with the superstar midfielder as he continues his comeback from an ankle injury.

Nemanja Matic came into the midfield alongside Andreas Pereira and Fred.

Solskjaer said: "Paul has played in two games now and he's been out for a while, so we didn't feel it was right for him to participate today."

Solskjaer has been a vocal critic of their hectic festive schedule but believes the comfortable nature of their win over Newcastle will help them cope against Burnely.

“We’re probably in the best position to perform on Saturday,” he said .

“One - we knew the game was over after 45 minutes. Two - we’re young, so we’re in with a great chance at Burnley to perform to our best level.

“I don’t think it’s fair on the boys at all,” he said. “I don’t think it’s fair to be expected to perform at the top of your level - both mentally and physically - 48 hours after you’ve played.

“Two games in three days is possible, just once in a while, but not when’s it’s as tight as this. But, I’m impressed with everyone in the dressing room and the way they have all looked after themselves.

“That’s why they could stay at home last night. There was no point staying in a hotel, because I trust them. They know what is the right thing to do.”
