Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives Paul Pogba injury update ahead of Man United's clash with Tottenham

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Paul Pogba is closing in on a return to action ahead of Manchester United's match with Tottenham this weekend.

However, Solskjaer has suggested that the French midfielder is unlikely to be fit for the game with Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Pogba has not featured for the Red Devils since a 4-1 win against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, with the Frenchman ruled out in recent weeks due to an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery on his ankle in the new year, and is now closing in on a return to first team football, with Solskjaer delivering an update on his fitness ahead of the weekend.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League clash with LASK, Solskjaer said: "Paul is getting closer, but not ready yet.

"He hasn’t trained with the team yet but by next week he will be ready."

United make the trip to north London on Sunday, with the Red Devils currently fifth in the Premier League as the battle to finish in the top four hots up.

United will go into the game four points ahead of Tottenham, with Jose Mourinho's men currently sitting eighth on 41 points following their 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
