Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'given assurances over his Man Utd future'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly been given assurances that he will not be judged too harshly on results this season.

The Norwegian prepares to start his first full campaign as Man Utd manager having spent over £140 million on his playing squad this summer.

United have brought in record signing Harry Maguire , Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James as they bid to improve on last season's sixth-place finish.

But despite the significant financial outlay, the United board are set to back Solskjaer in more transfer windows to come.

The Evening Standard report that the club's hierarchy are aware that Solskjaer's squad needs work and will allow the 46-year-old the time necessary to mould his side.

United start their Premier League campaign with the difficult visit of Chelsea to Old Trafford on Sunday.

They follow that up with ties against Wolves , Crystal Palace and Southampton before the international break.

Solskjaer been told by United chiefs though that he will not be pressured if results in their opening fixtures do not go to plan.

United failed to land a number of targets in the closing stages of this summer's window, most notably Juventus pairing Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic.

The Red Devils were also interested in a move for Dane Christian Eriksen but were unable to arrange a deal with his current club Tottenham .

However United are said to be willing to invest further in Solskjaer's squad in the forthcoming transfer windows, suggesting he could be afforded at least this season to try and implement his ideas without a great focus on results.

It is all part of United's transfer strategy in recruiting young, hungry players, which they are aware may not reap immediate rewards.

Even finishing outside of the Champions League places again is unlikely to cause United to part company with their manager.

The club have qualified for the competition just twice in the last five years, and the club have accepted they may miss out again as they embark on the new project with Solskjaer at the helm.
