Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fears for Man Utd future after Ed Woodward's January dealings

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Ed Woodward he wanted FOUR players in January – but only got one permanent deal done.

And that's sparked fears that Solskjaer's future at Old Trafford is less certain than the Norwegian boss might believe with Manchester United still keeping their managerial options open as they head towards the end of the season.

I understand Solskjaer and one of his senior backroom team met with Woodward in December and gave the United vice-chairman a list of players from which he indicated he needed four players in January to push for a Champions League finish.

But Woodward only delivered one permanent deal towards the end of the transfer window with United securing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes for an initial fee of £47million.

And with time running out before the window slammed shut United completed a last-gasp short-term loan deal for Shanghai Shenhua striker Odion Igalho.

That left Solskjaer disappointed – with observers wondering if United aren't hedging their bets over his future.

And it's put a question mark over whether he'll be given the chance to oversee the major overhaul being planned for this summer with speculation over his future refusing to go away.

United insist Solskjaer is safe but Woodward has told senior club figures he'll have no problem axing the Norwegian despite his cherished status as a 1999 Treble hero if a change is deemed necessary.

As revealed by Mirror Sport last week, Mauricio Pochettino is desperate for the chance to return to the Premier League at United while former Juventus boss Max Allegri would jump at the opportunity.

United fans are split on Solskjaer with many believing the club should give him the chance to turn it around.

However, an equal number suggest the job is too big for his experience grade and should be given to a proven top level boss.

United head to Chelsea tomorrow languishing in 9th position in the League – and defeat will intensify pressure of Solskjaer to steer the club away from their worst ever Premier League finish.
