Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains why Marcus Rashford starts ahead of Anthony Martial

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained why he selected Marcus Rashford in his starting lineup for Manchester United's Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona .

The England striker has been struggling with injury in the build-up to the Spanish champions visit, and had missed United's last fixture - the 2-1 reverse at Wolves .

But Rashford got the nod ahead of Anthony Martial, to lead the United attack alongside Romelu Lukaku.

"Rashy’s fine," Solskjaer told BT Sport ahead of kick-off.

"He’s been ill as well, he had his last test yesterday so hopefully he’ll last for as long as he can.

“He’ll do his best - we know Rashy, he lives for nights like this.”

United were without both Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic for the first leg at Old Trafford.

That meant Fred and Scott McTominay were both selected in central midfield alongside Paul Pogba.

Diogo Dalot was handed a spot on the right wing, with Ashley Young at right-back.

For the Catalans, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez led the attack, with Philippe Coutinho also starting.
