Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains why Man Utd didn't complete any deadline day transfers

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he is happy with his squad ahead of the upcoming season and does not regret the club's failure to sign any players on deadline day.

United did not add to their summer deals for Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire despite selling striker Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan for £73m on Thursday.

Some supporters expressed their frustrations about the lack of action, and targeted vice chairman Ed Woodward, with #woodwardout trending on Twitter by the evening.

But speaking at his press conference ahead of United's opening Premier League game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday, Solskjaer said: “Do you know, I think when the transfer window closes it's a great feeling of relief now it's done.

“Now we know we're looking forward with and I'm delighted with the three we've signed.”

Asked if he understood the frustration of some United fans at the lack of business late in the window, Solskjaer said: “Well that's not the feeling inside the club and the feeling with the fans I've met is that they're are excited with the ones we've got.

“There are always going to be fans out there wanting to sign players, that's part and parcel of being here, but the players are here now and have been shown that trust and we believe in them.

United are expected to challenge for a top four place this season after their poor end to the last campaign saw them slump to a sixth place finish.

Solskjaer believes the only solution to getting the supporters back on their side is by playing good football on the pitch.

“Of course we want to put that [sense of frustration] right and the only way we can end any doubts is by playing good football, showing the team we want to be and with the style we want to play," he added.

“Our fans, when they see that intention, have always been supporting the team, but within the team and the club we're feeling very confident and don't feel that negativity you're talking about.”
