Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains why Daniel James started for Manchester United vs Leeds

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Daniel James has worked hard to merit his selection in the Manchester United side against Leeds.

Solskjaer has included James, Scott McTominay, Fred, David de Gea and Luke Shaw in his United team to take on the Yorkshire club at Old Trafford, from 4.30pm this afternoon. He's made five changes from the side that beat Sheffield United 3-2 on Thursday.

The United boss has explained his team selection for the clash against Marcelo Bielsa's side, with James — who has heavily been linked with a move to Leeds and came close to Elland Road in January 2019 — one of the more surprising names on the teamsheet.

Solskjaer told MUTV before kick-off: "Sometimes it's players who suit certain opponents, but also we also have a lot of games, so we have to rotate.

On James, he said: "He's worked really hard, we know his qualities and that his qualities will be very valuable in this game. I hope and think it's going to work out well."

Solskjaer admitted he expects an open and exciting game against Bielsa's much-vaunted Leeds side.

"I hope it's going to be an entertaining game," he added. "They have a certain style, it will be a challenge for our players. we played them a year-and-a-half ago in pre-season in Australia. He [Bielsa] is one of the most exciting coaches to watch with his teams. I admire his style of coaching and management because of what he demands of his players."

United are looking to make it eight successive Premier League games unbeaten and could jump into the top four places with three points against Leeds.

United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; James, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Subs: Henderson, Telles, Bailly, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Van de Beek, Greenwood, Cavani.
