Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains Victor Lindelof's absence from the Man Utd squad

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Victor Lindelof is carrying an injury, which has ruled him out of Manchester United's clash with Newcastle.

Axel Tuanzebe has been selected in place of the 25-year-old defender with Marcos Rojo named on the bench as cover for the match at St James' Park.

Lindelof picked up a knock in the Europa League in United's bore draw with AZ Alkmaar. Jesse Lingard joins him in the medical room.

"Victor and Jesse got injuries against Alkmaar on that pitch," Solskjaer told MUTV.

"Paul obviously didn't travel. So we've just got more concerns on the injury front but that doesn't matter now, we've got 11 out there who have been playing together. Diogo did well against Alkmaar."

Lindelof has become one half of Solskjaer's preferred centre-back pairing alongside £80million summer signing Harry Maguire this season.

The Sweden international, who was signed by Jose Mourinho, has come on leaps and bounds over the past year and has ousted the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly from the first team.
