Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains Marcus Rashford selection for Manchester United vs Barcelona

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained his thinking behind Marcus Rashford's return to the Manchester United team to face Barcelona.

United welcome Barcelona to Old Trafford in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday night as they look to cause another upset in the competition this season.

Solskjaer has made one change from the side which lost to Wolves last week, with England international Rashford in to replace Jesse Lingard.

Rashford was a huge miss for United as they fell to a league defeat at Molineux last week, and Solskjaer confirmed that the 21-year-old was missing due to illness as well as his reported ankle injury.

"Rashy's fine. He's been ill as well, he had his last test yesterday so hopefully he'll last for as long as he can,” said Solskjaer, in his pre-match interview with BT Sport.

“He'll do his best - we know Rashy, he lives for nights like this.”

Scott McTominay and Fred both retain their positions in midfield, while there is also a place for Diogo Dalot against the Spanish champions.

It means United line up with a similar side to the one which recorded their heroic victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round, and Solskjaer is now hoping for a similar result.

The United manager added: “We're playing against a good team - if we let them dominate, we're in for a hard night.

“But our side is similar to the one that did so well over in Paris. They all played so well against PSG.”
