Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains Manchester United team selection vs Everton

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes the energy of Fred and Scott McTominay can help inspire Manchester United to victory over Everton this weekend.

United are in action at Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime just four days after they tasted defeat away at Istanbul Basksehir in the Champions League group stage.

Solskjaer has made four changes from his side in midweek, with two of those coming in midfield while Victor Lindelof has been recalled in defence after a recent back injury.

"We need a response from the games on Wednesday and last Sunday as well to be honest," the manager told MUTV. "Victor is feeling okay in his back, hopefully he can last the game because he has had trouble with it. The energy of Scott and Fred after not playing this midweek will help us."

Juan Mata is also given a start and Solskjaer hopes his intelligence can determine the outcome of the match.

He added: "Juan has showed so many times that we need his brightness and cleverness. He has been in good form lately and hopefully we can get him on the ball and let him create chances for the front players.

"The energy is fine. We can talk about that after the game - hopefully with a good result - and it is easier to say what you really mean."
