Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains Manchester United team selection and confirms fresh injury

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Romelu Lukaku is missing Manchester United's clash with Huddersfield through injury.

The Belgian forward has dropped out of the matchday squad for the clash on Sunday afternoon having started against Chelsea last weekend.

Lukaku is one of three changes for United ahead of the match at the John Smith's Stadium with Eric Bailly also missing out with injury, and Ander Herrera dropping to the bench.

Alexis Sanchez, Scott McTominay and Phil Jones have come into the side for the match, and Solskjaer explained why he chose to make such changes.

"Eric and Rom are injured so Alexis and Jonah come in for them and then Scotty has been very bright in training," Solskjaer told MUTV. "Ander has been out for a while as well so Scotty got the nod today."

United know victory is crucial if they are to keep their faint hopes of Champions League qualification alive, and speaking ahead of the match the manager insisted his side are still in contention for a top-four finish.

He added: "We're still in with a chance. You never know what's going to happen in any game in the PL so we're going to go for a win and then if we get a win hopefully we can get loads of goals but we must make sure we put a good performance in. Attack of course, defend, win the ball back early."

On Sanchez starting, Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “He's been waiting for an opportunity. He's been injured for a while and working hard to get back, so hopefully we can see a sharp Alexis with the attitude and hunger to get goals because we need goals to win the game."
