Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains his Manchester United managerial style

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted it's "natural" for him to put youth to the forefront, as he's done at Manchester United for the past year.

The Norwegian has endured an up and down 12 months at Old Trafford since replacing Jose Mourinho as manager but a huge feature of his tenure has been opportunities for young players.

Mason Greenwood, James Garner, Tahith Chong and Brandon Williams are among those to be handed senior debuts but Solskjaer and he explained to the United podcast why he prefers to put faith in academy stars.

“It’s natural to me to manage this way, but it’s because I’ve learnt all my management skills from the gaffer [Sir Alex Ferguson]," he said.

"But I love giving young players a chance. I also love being direct and going forward when possible. We know we need to be better at controlling and dominating games, but that will come with experience.

"We have the youngest team in the Premier League, which in one one way is fantastic. In another way, we know we’re going to get these inconsistencies.”

Solskjaer vowed not to change his style as he looks to take the club back to the glory days it enjoyed — and he enjoyed while a United player — under Ferguson.

He wants United to remain a fiercely attacking side under his management.

“I think the Man United style is to be attacking," he added.

"We need to try and win games in the way that Sir Alex’s teams did and the Busby Babes did. We want to win that way.

"It’s not always going to happen, but that’s what we need to aim for and strive for: winning in the right style. We have a responsibility and a duty for everyone who wants to come and watch us. But, we’re scoring goals now and we’re on our way.”
