Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains his Man United team selection for Tottenham clash

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has outlined why he has picked the side he has for the Premier League clash with Tottenham this evening (Wednesday).

Solskjaer has made four changes to the United side that started against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Scott McTominay returning from injury, while Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Mason Greenwood have all been included from the start.

The quartet come in to replace Brandon Williams, Andreas Pereira and Juan Mata, who are all on the bench, while Anthony Martial is ruled out through injury after picking up a knock on Sunday.

But while United's team to face Spurs has come as a surprise to some fans and pundits alike, Solskjaer has moved to explain why he has made the decisions he has, with 18-year-old Greenwood lining up alongside Daniel James and Marcus Rashford in a youthful attack for the hosts.

"That's what he's been hoping, working, waiting for," he told MUTV, speaking about the teenager.

"Working hard, taking chances in the Europa League & Carabao Cup. He's played really well. I'm sure he's ready. I can see him creating chances & giving them trouble... he's a goalscorer."

Meanwhile, Solskjaer also spoke of how much of a boost it is for United to have McTominay back in the side, having not featured for the Red Devils since a 3-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion last month.

"Scott has been working really hard to be fit. Just couldn't make the Villa one, but we're happy to have him back here," said Solskjaer.

"He's important for us, a leader, physical presence in the middle, so great to have him back."
