Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops hint on why Man Utd have yet to make Bruno Fernandes transfer bid

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested Manchester United have yet to make a bid for Bruno Fernandes because they're not going to "overpay" on players.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the Portugal international for much of the summer but are yet to make a formal bid.

Reports from Portugal suggest that United and Sporting Lisbon are at odds over the transfer fee for the midfielder, with the Red Devils looking to pay less than the figure they have been quoted.

Manchester United have also been prioritising signing £80million Harry Maguire, ensuring the Fernandes deal is very much on the back-burner.

And comments from Solskjaer, who spoke to the press on Tuesday, suggest the Red Devils will not be rushed into paying over the odds for the Portuguese.

"We have been linked with so many players," explained the United boss.

"I'm sure you don't believe every single player that we've been linked with, but I think that Manchester United sometimes have, because of the wealth, maybe we have had to pay more, a bigger premium to get players in, and that’s just the world we live in.

"And we've taken our time, we're not going to overpay, but we have to get the right people in, the right players."

On whether he has a maximum amount of players he can sign this summer, Solskjaer added: "No there's never any maximum.

"There are players here that are coming into pre-season as well that are... I might just have a look at him again because if he has changed, as I think he has and it looks like, he might still have a career here."
