Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops Alexis Sanchez hint ahead of Barcelona vs Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to turn to Alexis Sanchez in Manchester United's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Barcelona.

The Red Devils trail 1-0 on aggregate following last week's first leg at Old Trafford.

Sanchez missed that meeting with his former club due to injury, but is back in the United squad for Tuesday night's return clash.

The Chilean international, 30, has endured a miserable season and has failed to fire for United since joining from Arsenal in January 2018.

Sanchez, whose contract is worth a potential £500,000-a-week, has been widely dismissed as one of the most expensive failures in the club's history.

His long-term future is in serious doubt and his wages have caused problems for club chiefs - notably with regards contract negotiations with current No.1 David de Gea.

But with United needing goals at Camp Nou, and having scored just four times from open play in their last six games, Solskjaer is ready to throw Sanchez an SOS in Catalunya.

The Chilean will likely start on the bench in Barcelona , but Solskjaer insists he will have no qualms throwing him into the fray.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs new Nou Camp miracle amid fear Man Utd chose too soon

"Fitness wise he's available and of course, for Alexis who's been here and played here, when he's on the pitch he wants to prove a point for us as well," said Solskjaer on Monday.

"He's been injured, he's not had a fantastic season so far and let's hope he can end the season great.

"We're in the business end, playing games Manchester United are used to playing in.

"We're challenging for a semi-final, so let's hope Alexis, when he's on the pitch he can be happy with his performance."

Marcus Rashford is set to lead the line for United having only been a substitute against West Ham on Saturday.
