Ole Gunnar Solskjaer "doesn't understand" Jurgen Klopp's comments on Man Utd style

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he "doesn't understand" Jurgen Klopp's suggestion that his Manchester United side played defensively at Anfield last weekend.

The Red Devils drew 0-0 with Liverpool despite having chances to win the game late on.

It kept their momentum going however and they won at Fulham in midweek to remain top of the Premier League.

Solskjaer has often employed a counter-attacking style that has made best use of their electric forward line.

United and Liverpool will square off once again this weekend in the FA Cup.

Solskjaer though has rejected claims from the German that his side played negatively instead citing their inaccuracy in the final third as an issue.

He said: "We attacked every time we got the ball, maybe too much. We kept giving it away, that was the challenge. We went forward too quickly.

"The thought that we weren't attacking, I don't understand that one. We kept giving it away.

"It's the quality of what we did, we need to do better. We tried to press them high. It's not easy, they played well, they played their way out of our press.

"We didn't go out there to drop deep and try to soak up the pressure.

"They had five midfielders out there to play out plus a 'keeper who is very capable. When you look back at it, I think it was a good game by the two teams.

"We played against a top Liverpool team. Yes, [Virgil] van Dijk is not there but everyone's got an injury or two here or there.

"I was very pleased with the performance when I looked at it after."

Solskjaer has held Liverpool to two draws each time he has hosted them as United boss.

They play a Reds side desperately struggling for form having failed to win any of their last four in the league.

Klopp will be seeking a response from his side following their shock home loss to Burnley on Thursday night.
