Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held discussion with the Manchester United hierarchy over which players should stay and which should leave the club this summer.
Solskjaer remains the club’s caretaker manager but, after winning 12 of his 15 games in charge so far, his chances of succeeding Jose Mourinho on a permanent basis have greatly increased.
The Norwegian said on Friday that he has spoken with the club about which players he believes should be moved on and even held such talks before establishing his impressive win record.
Antonio Valencia, the club captain, moved closer to the Old Trafford exit door when the deadline for his contract to be extended passed on Friday. Valencia has played just once under Solskjaer.
When asked whether he had given advice of player renewals and departures, Solskjaer said: “Yes I have. We've been discussing the future of the club.
“We did that before I had won two or three games and all this talk about if I should stay or not.
“My contract is up in the summer but I still, as I've always done for Man United, give my 100 per cent and my best.
“You have to plan. Even if I'm not here, I still give my view on who I would like to see as a supporter.”
When asked if he hopes to still be at Old Trafford come August, Solskjaer said: “Everyone knows I'd like to stay of course but that's not decided until the end of the season.”
If Solskjaer is not appointed as United’s permanent successor to Jose Mourinho, he will return to ‘parent club’ Molde in his native Norway.
