Ole Gunnar Solskjaer discusses Erling Haaland as 'Man Utd scout watches hat-trick'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted to see teenager Erling Haaland take the Champions League by storm on Tuesday night.

Haaland, 19, scored a stunning first-half hat-trick as Red Bull Salzburg thrashed Genk in their group stage opener.

The teenager is the son of former Leeds and Manchester City midfielder Alf-Inge and also played for United boss Solskjaer at Molde.

Ahead of his side's Europa League clash with Astana, Solskjaer was asked about the striker's outstanding Champions League debut.

"It was nice watching the game last night," Solskjaer said of Haaland.

"But my focus obviously is on the game against Astana.

"It's great watching him and I think everyone in Norway is excited by his development."

United have been linked with Haaland in the past, although Solskjaer joked he was 'not the world’s biggest Manchester United fan' during his time with Molde.

But reports in Austria suggest a United scout was in attendance during the Champions League clash on Tuesday night.

Salzburger Nachrichten reports scouts from as many as 50 clubs were in attendance at the Red Bull Arena.

While the other clubs are not named, the presence of a figure from Old Trafford has raised eyebrows.

It was reported last month that United scouts watched Haaland in action, and also made checks on the player in the Europa League last term.

Haaland himself, is a big Leeds fan, admitting: "I want to be the best. The dream is to win the Premier League with Leeds - and to be a better player than dad."
