Ole Gunnar Solskjaer discusses Donny van de Beek, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes problem

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek will all be able to play together.

The recent acquisition of van de Beek - whom United signed from Ajax earlier this month for a fee of £40million - has given Solskjaer somewhat of a selection headache, albeit it a positive one.

Many fans are concerned that one of the trio will end up constantly warming the bench and thus will become unhappy with their situation.

That concern has arisen due to their similar playing style and positional preference.

Solskjaer is well aware of the trio's respective strengths and preferences and is confident they'd be able to adapt to playing together if push came to shove.

“Well, I think good players can play well together,“ Solskjaer said on Friday in response to a question about his midfield.

“But also, Scott [McTominay], Nemanja [Matic] and Fred are good players, so there’s competition for those places.

“I can see lots of different combinations in that midfield, different systems as well. We’re probably going to see them together at some point."

United will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, travelling to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton.

Solskjaer's troops will go into the match on the back of a disappointing opening day defeat to Crystal Palace, which the Norwegian hopes his side will erase the memory of with an impressive win in Sussex.

He said: “I wasn’t happy with the game against Palace, of course, I wasn’t.

“We weren’t ready to play at the intensity we needed and the quality that we needed. Runs weren’t there. Then again, after the restart in June and July, I thought we’d taken big strides.

“One game lives its own life and I think the Palace one was a very disappointing one, but I’m still confident that we can still break teams down with our quality.

"But we need some more imagination and some more quality than what we had in that game, that’s for sure.”
