Ole Gunnar Solskjaer details full extent of Man Utd injury crisis ahead of Arsenal

Paul Pogba is a major doubt for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Arsenal on Monday.

Pogba aggravated an ankle injury in United's Carabao Cup draw with League One Rochdale, in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side scraped through on penalties.

United's record signing did not attend a post-match squad dinner because of the injury, and Solskjaer revealed the midfielder may miss Monday's game at Old Trafford.

And with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw already out, Solskjaer can ill-afford to lose Pogba for such an important game, with United already struggling in the league.

“The situation is he finished the game, 90 minutes, which was fantastic, but he got a knock to his ankle which is very swollen,” said Solskjaer.

"So it was better not to go there with the team and he's in a race for Monday. But that's the way it is.

“Luke's back in training today, so let's see how he is. He's getting there so let's see how he reacts the next couple of days.

“He's been working really hard, so we hope to see him before international break.”

Asked if Rashford and Martial had a chance of making the Arsenal game, Solskjaer said: “I wouldn't put my life on it but that's part of this game, you work with what you have and we're looking forward to this game.”

Solskjaer has come under growing pressure following United's 2-0 defeat at West Ham and abject performance against Rochdale, but dismissed the criticism.

“We're focused on what we have to do and that's to keep improving,” said Solskjaer.

“I never said it was gonna be easy this season, there are gonna be ups and downs, highs and lows, and when we lose a game we have to trust ourselves and what we're doing, keep the eyes on the prize and keep to the principles we believe in.

“You can see how much we've improved defensively, that's where we put the big money in with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.

“We don't concede many chances, concede too many goals, but the other way going forward is where we've struggled with injuries, to Paul, Anthony Marcus.

“We've had some bad luck in that respect and it doesn't help when you lose players.

“It's a team improving, evolving,a young team, the culture is there see every single day in training.

“There are no issues with attitudes, work rate and desire, now [it's a case of] can we trust ourselves?

“You can see against Astana and Rochdale they want to impress, do well, but maybe they rush their finish at times.”
