Ole Gunnar Solskjaer credits key Anthony Martial changes as vital in Man Utd star's revival

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has pinpointed the changes to Anthony Martial's training regime which have catapulted the Manchester United No9 to the "best shape of his career".

As a 19-year-old, Martial joined the Red Devils from Monaco in 2015 for an initial fee of £36million - then a world record fee for teenager.

The Frenchman hit the ground running at Old Trafford, scoring 18 goals in his debut season. But Martial has struggled for form in recent years, scoring eight, 11 and 12 goals in the past three campaigns.

His performances this season, however, imply he is fulfilling his huge potential and the 24-year-old has netted 23 times, as well as providing 11 assists.

Solskjaer believes tweaks to Martial's training regime have been key to resurrecting his United career.

Heaping praise on his striker, the United boss said: "Anto has made huge strides this season in many aspects of his game.

"He's worked hard in the gym, and on his fitness, so physically he's at the best level he's been at in his career - there's more to come from him."

Martial played just six minutes in United's most recent game - the 2-1 win over LASK Linz in the Europa League last 16 - but found the back of the net to score his fourth goal in the competition this season.

He also enjoyed his most prolific campaign in the Premier League, scoring 17 goals in 32 appearances to help steer United to a third-place finish.

Ahead of the quarter-final clash with United on Monday, Copenhagen boss Stale Solbakken identified Martial as one of a number of danger men in the Red Devils squad.

He said: "They're starting to open up low defences now, with the signing of Bruno Fernandes, with the cutting inside from the right of Mason Greenwood, and obviously the speed of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

“So it's going very much in the right direction and after the coronavirus break they have been very good.”
