Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Man Utd injury issues ahead of FA Cup clash at Wolves

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Sergio Romero will start in the FA Cup third round clash at Wolves.

But Manchester United, who Solskjaer says currently have a number of players dealing with minor illnesses, will again be without six first-team players for the trip to Molineux on Saturday.

Paul Pogba is sidelined with a fresh ankle injury, which the World Cup winner is set to undergo surgery on and will rule him out for the next month.

And Scott McTominay is also sidelined with the knee injury picked up in the Boxing Day win over Newcastle.

Long-term absentees Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are all coming closer to first-team returns, but aren’t being considered for action yet.

And Marcos Rojo, is also still not ready for action, with the Argentine also available for transfer this month.

"Paul is out," Solskjaer said. "Axel, Eric, Tim are getting closer but won't be ready for this. Rojo won't be ready for this.

"There are a couple of feelings of illness and cold, which is normal for this time [of year], so I'll just have to see who wakes up tomorrow and feels ok.

"Today, of course, we've got a training session as well but some of them will miss that one.”

Both Fosu-Mensah and Bailly are set to play for the reserves soon, with Solskjaer telling MUTV: “Hopefully we can see Axel soon. Tim and Eric are going to play reserves games soon, hopefully.”

He also confirmed changes at Molineux, declaring: “There will be some changes, We need to look after the players."

Anthony Martial arrived at Carrington on Friday morning before departing just 10 minutes later.

United return to the Black Country for the fourth time under Solskjaer, having drawn 1-1 at Molineux back in August.

But the Red Devils were beaten 2-1 in last season’s FA Cup quarter-final and haven’t beaten Wolves in four matches since their Premier League return in 2018.

Asked about another clash with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men on Friday, Solskajer joked: "First of all, we blame the FA for the hot and cold balls!”

"We've had in succession Arsenal away, Chelsea away, Wolves away and Wolves away again, so they're not gonna make it easy for us.

"Tough fourth time there already in my time at Molineux and we haven't won there yet.

" Liverpool lost there last season, City just lost there now, so we know we've got to earn the right to win there, we've got to play well, we've got to perform and we've got to go there positive.

"Because we want a reaction after a defeat against Arsenal, which everybody said was such a bad, bad performance but it was in my mind a good game between two good teams."
