Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Ander Herrera ready for Man Utd return vs Chelsea

Manchester United are set to welcome Ander Herrera back from injury against Chelsea on Sunday.

Herrera’s long-term Old Trafford future is in question, with the 29-year-old’s contract set to expire this summer and contract negotiations having stalled.

But the Spanish midfielder, who hasn’t featured for United since suffering a thigh injury against Watford on March 30, is set to return to play his part in the club’s top four fight.

Herrera has taken a full part in training in recent days, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed on Friday that he is set to return for the visit of Maurizio Sarri’s men.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offers frank assessment of season as Man Utd stars return to training

"I would think so yeah," Solskjaer said. "There’s three games left and Ander's been training, enthusiastic and will probably be involved on Sunday.

"I can’t guarantee [that] but he's trained the last two days. He’s been injured."

Talks over a new deal for Herrera have stalled over his contract demands.

United chiefs are keen for him to stay, and have offered a three-year deal worth in the region of £125,000 - a more than 50 per cent rise on his current £80,000-a-week.

But Herrera has been holding out for £200,000-a-week and has looked increasingly set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer on July 1.

A verbal agreement between player and club has been widely reported, but claims this week suggest PSG sporting director Antero Henrique has been “annoyed” with the lack of forward progress in recent weeks - and a feeling that Herrera is seeking to keep his options open as long as possible.

Midfielder Scott McTominay missed Wednesday's derby defeat after failing a fitness test.

The Scotland international is once more a doubt to face Chelsea, who currently sit fourth - three points ahead of the Red Devils.
