Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confident David De Gea will sign new Man Utd deal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident David De Gea will sign a contract extension with Manchester United in the coming weeks.

De Gea, who is in the final year of his contract, has been offered a deal worth £350,000-a-week, which would make him the world's highest-paid goalkeeper.

United have been talking to De Gea and his representatives for more than 18 months, with little sign of a breakthrough and an agreement on both sides.

But Solskjaer said he remains "positive" Spain international De Gea will put pen to paper on a new deal and end speculation about his future.

"David has had a summer where he's been negotiating and we hope we're going get it sorted," said Solskjaer.

"I'm positive, of course, with David. I've said many times how lucky I am and happy we are to have him in goal."

United have made just two signings this summer, Aaraon Wan-Bissaka arriving from Crystal Palace for £50million and Daniel James from Swansea for £15m.

The lack of more signings has seen frustration and anger grow among United fans, who feel the club are not moving quickly enough or being decisive enough in the transfer market.

But Solskjaer, who is in the market for three more signings before the window shuts on August 8, said work is being done behind the scenes to get new arrivals in as quickly as possible.

"I can see your point, but doing business in the football market is not a quick fix overnight,"s aid Solskjaer.

"We have players I trust and who I know are going to be successful at this club and we've signed two, Dan and Aaron, with speed, hunger and quality, to be part of that.

"We know last year was disappointing and what we have to aim for this year. We've got to close the gap.

"We ended up sixth in a very competitive league and that's what Manchester United is all about - bouncing back after a season.

"When the league starts I'm sure we'll have a good team, a Manchester United team that is going to challenge.

"We're still in the market looking to do some business, but we're patient, we're Manchester United, we don't have to sell and don't have to overpay.

"You have to have the right players at the right price and if you look at the squad we've got now, there are so many good players, and the ones working here want to improve."
