Ole Gunnar Solskjaer compares Mason Greenwood to Man Utd legend

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that Mason Greenwood's Manchester United emergence reminded him of Ryan Giggs after the youngster struck the only goal in the 1-0 win over Inter Milan in Singapore.

Greenwood came off the bench to score as United won their third successive pre-season game, following on from the victories over Perth Glory and Leeds United in which they also didn't concede a goal.

Solskjaer gave Greenwood four appearances for the United first-team last season, and has also hinted that he could be in line for a start in United's opening game of the 2019/20 Premier League season against Chelsea if he continues showing this form.

"He reminds me a little bit of the Giggsy story," said Solskjaer in Singapore.

"You can't send him on loan and he's ready to be in this squad.

"He’s a natural finisher. He’s practicing of course but he just knows where the goal is. Sometimes you get players like this and he’s a natural scorer."

Solskjaer broached the subject of Greenwood starting the Chelsea game after he netted against Leeds United in the Red Devils' previous friendly in Perth.

“He’s got a chance of starting that one, definitely," he said.

"He’s more than capable and will always be there, in and around the box, creating chances."

Back in Singapore, the Norwegian also provided updates on Victor Lindelof and Tahith Chong after both suffered injuries in the second half.

The Swedish defender limped off with a thigh injury shortly before the hour mark, while Chong was caught in a challenge.

"We don’t know yet, I think they should be okay," he said

"We’ll have to assess it (Lindelof) tomorrow. I don’t blame the defenders for trying to stop him (Chong).”
