Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calls for Man City to hand fan lifetime ban for alleged racial abuse

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called on Manchester City to ban a fan for life after Manchester United players Fred and Jesse Lingard were racial abused at the Etihad.

Midfielder Fred was struck on the back of the head by items thrown by City fans while attempting to take a corner during the second half of the Manchester derby.

Footage from Sky Sports' coverage then emerged on social media of a supporter appearing to to show a City supporter making an offensive gesture to Jesse Lingard.

Solskjaer was furious at the incident and the abuse his players were forced to be subjected to and called on City to issue a quick response to the people involved.

"I have seen it on the video with Fred and Jesse taking coins from the City fans first of all so they have to go away and then there was chanting and racist abuse towards my two players," Solskjaer said.

"City will deal with it because he shouldn't be watching it live.

"We need to stamp it out. We keep talking about it every single week. He should not be allowed back into a ground. Simple as that."

City were quick to issue a statement of their own after the match - which they lost 2-1 after goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial downed them.

A City statement read: " Manchester City  FC are aware of a video circulating on social media which appears to show a supporter making racial gestures during the second half of the match against  Manchester United  this evening.

"Officials from the Club are working with Greater Manchester Police in order to help them identify any individuals concerned and assist with their enquiries.

"The Club are also working with GMP regarding an instance of objects being thrown onto the field of play.

"The Club operates a zero tolerance policy regarding discrimination of any kind, and anyone found guilty of racial abuse will be banned from the club for life."
