Ole Gunnar Solskjaer breaks silence on Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United transfer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo to give everyone at Manchester United a lift.

United secured a deal with Juventus for the signing of Ronaldo and the 36-year-old will complete a sensational return to Old Trafford when he completes his medical in Lisbon.

Solskjaer played with Ronaldo in his first spell at the club and since leaving 12 years ago he's become one of the greatest players the game has seen, winning the Ballon d'Or five times.

United fans have been signing 'Viva Ronaldo' outside Molineux all afternoon and excitement at his arrival is at fever pitch.

"The fans have been excited, we all are, he’s had such a great career, he’s been here before, hopefully we can finalise the paperwork," Solskjaer told MUTV.

"He’s going to give everyone a boost, I played with him, he’s a great player, a top human being, a top professional, he will give everyone around the club a buzz.”

Ronaldo isn't at Molineux but two new signings do make their first starts for the club, with Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho in from the start, replacing Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial from the team that started against Southampton.

Solskjaer has made three changes in total from the side that drew at St Mary's last weekend, with Varane and Sancho joined in the side by Daniel James, who has replaced Nemanja Matic.

“They’re ready, they’ve worked hard, Raphael hasn’t had any game minutes yet, Jadon has had a few minutes and started the game against Burnley behind closed doors. They should be ready and they’re eager to get going, they deserve the start," Solskjaer said.

Of the reasons for James' inclusion and a focus on pace, Solskjaer added: “You look at the team, look at the opposition and spaces where we might exploit them, hopefully we can use the pace in behind but also the cleverness in between the lines and we can link with Bruno and get him on the ball as much as we can."
