Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blasts Premier League after Manchester United against Liverpool decision

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has blasted the fixture schedulers after Manchester United’s rearranged game with Liverpool left his side finishing the season with five Premier League games in 15 days – before a European final.

Old foes Manchester United and Liverpool – English football’s two most-successful club sides – were due to meet in a heavyweight clash at Old Trafford last Sunday.

But protests against United’s owners the Glazers from the home fans, which included a pitch invasion, prompted the match to be postponed due to security concerns.

With Solskjaer’s team already facing midweek fixtures between now and the end of the campaign, they must now tackle Jurgen Klopp’s men on Thursday May 13, just 48 hours after a home game against another side pushing for Champions League football, Leicester City on Tuesday May 11.

United’s other Premier League games are Aston Villa (a), Sunday May 9; Fulham (h), Tuesday May 18; Wolverhampton Wanderers (a), Sunday May 23.

They then play Spanish side Villarreal in the Europa League final in the Polish city of Gdansk on Wednesday May 26.

In regards to the busy schedule of matches that his United side now face, Solskjaer told BT Sport: “It's unheard of. It's made by people who have never played football at this level.

“It's physically impossible for the players. We have not been dealt a good hand.

“We are going to need everyone for these four games. It's a short turnaround but we have to be ready.”

After taking on Southampton at Anfield on Saturday night, Liverpool then face United away next Thursday before a trip to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday 16th.
