Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been named the Premier League manager of the month for January.

Marcus Rashford meanwhile has scooped the player of the month award after scoring three goals in four league appearances, including winners against Tottenham and Leicester.

Solskjaer was appointed United’s interim boss in December following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal. The Norwegian has led the club to seven wins in eight league matches, also notching wins in the third and fourth rounds of the FA Cup.

He becomes the first United manager to win the award since Sir Alex Ferguson collected his last one in October 2012.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho arrived at and left Old Trafford without winning the award.

"It's been a great achievement,” Solskjaer said on Friday of his terrific start.

"The team deserves every single bit of credit in that respect - they've done it.

"But I don't look back at being proud of this and proud of that, I've never been that way, I've always looked forward and not sat down before a chapter is finished.

"I reflect, but I've never [pat myself on the back] and said, 'Well done', maybe I should do more often. But that's just me."
