Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backtracks on Amad question ahead of Real Sociedad fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has appeared to backtrack over whether Amad would start for Manchester United in the Europa League second leg class with Real Sociedad tonight.

The Red Devils go into the home leg with a 4-0 lead having secured a convincing result last week in Turin.

The clash will take place at Old Trafford, even though the first leg was held at Juventus’ Allianz Stadium due to travel restrictions.

But it appears that Amad won’t be handed his first start for the club, having made his debut off the bench last Thursday.

“Probably not Shola and Amad, no,” said Solskjaer when asked if either Amad or Shola Shortire would be in the team from the off.

Amad made a cameo debut in the Europa League last week for Man Utd (2021 Manchester United FC)

“I’m not sure if that would be fair on them [to be picked in the starting line-up]. They’ll be in the squad.”

Solskjaer has also spoken confidently about their involvement against Sociedad though, hinting that a start could have been on the cards.

"Amad and Shola they will be involved, they are in the squad,” the Norwegian also claimed. “I won’t be saying if they start or not!"

United will be without midfield trio Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek though, as well as back up striker Edinson Cavani.

“They'll still be missing,” Solskjaer added. “They've not joined training so they won't be ready. no.

“Paul has been outside on the grass and is starting to step up his recovery but he's not near the team for this game.”

“It'll be more or less the same squad that we had against Newcastle.”

Due to the shortage in midfield, Northern Ireland international Ethan Galbraith could feature though for only the second time in his senior career, but Hannibal has been ruled out.

“Galbraith will be with us," he said. “Hannibal unfortunately injured his shoulder in the Reserves so he’ll be out for a few weeks.

“He was just on his way into the squad and training with us but that’s football. He’ll come back stronger, I am sure, and he knows he’s not far away."
