Ole Gunnar Solskjaer announces huge Marcus Rashford injury blow for Man United in top four race

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed a big injury blow for his side.

Marcus Rashford has been out since the FA Cup against Wolves in January, with the club revealing after he left the field that he had suffered a double stress-fracture in his back.

Solskjaer was hoping that the England international would only be out for around two to three months, but has confirmed that the rest of his season, and indeed Euro 2020, is in doubt for the 22-year-old.

"I would hope he's playing this season," Solskjaer told reporters at his press conference ahead of United's clash against Club Brugge in the Europa League on Thursday.

Soriano: UEFA allegations against Man City simply not true

"It will be touch and go towards the end. Hopefully we can get through this tournament and prolong the season.

"It takes time. I'm not a doctor. I was hoping he would recover quicker than what it looks like he's going to be out for.

"Another few months, definitely. If he's not fit enough, he won't go [to the Euros].

"He had a scan and it was maybe more severe than what we hoped and expected. He felt fine a few days before that.

"I didn't know it takes that time to recover. When it heals he will be stronger for it so it’s important we don't rush it."

Solskjaer also revealed that Paul Pogba is not yet close to a return from the ankle injury that has prevented him from playing much of a part at all this season.

The midfielder has made just seven Premier League appearances this season, and Solskjaer stated that he has not rejoined training with the squad.

"He's not been part of team training yet," the manager added. "He's not anywhere near that yet."

United took a big step in their race to finish in a Champions League spot this season with the win over Chelsea on Monday night, narrowing the gap to three points between themselves and the Blues in fourth.

And with their rivals Man City potentially banned from European football for two years, fifth place is also set to earn a spot in Europe's top competition next year.

Solskjaer did not give much reflection on City's ban, adding only that: "At the moment we are talking about this tournament [the Europa League].

"We dream about winning this tournament. We have to improve and get better and be consistent. If we get results, we have a chance."
