Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jurgen Klopp's first 100 games comparison gives Man Utd hope

Amid all the fallout from Manchester United's disastrous defeat to Arsenal over the weekend, you'd be forgiven for believing there's no hope for Red Devils fans.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's 100th game in charge as United manager turned into a nightmare as the Gunners secured a deserved 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

That defeat has piled the pressure on Solskjaer, who continues to divide opinion after overseeing a miserable run of from at home.

United have now failed to win in their opening four top-flight home matches for the first time since 1972-73 - and there appears no quick fix on the horizon.

But, despite their current woes, perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for United.

Solskjaer has presided over 55 wins, 21 draws and 24 defeats from his opening 100 games - placing him third in the all-time list of United managers.

Only Ernest Mangnall and Jose Mourinho have fared better as United managers - but it is the form of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool which will be a boost to United fans.

Solskjaer has a better record than the legendary German in his opening 100 games, with a win percentage of 56 per cent compared to Klopp's 50 per cent.

Klopp won 50 games, drawing 29 and losing 21 in his first 100 matches in charge of the Anfield club.

the German's Premier League record is slightly better, having played four more games, with Klopp winning 35 times compared to Solskjaer's 32 victories.

But, Klopp failed to enjoy much success in his early days as Liverpool boss.

During the period of his first 100 games, Liverpool lost in the Europa League and League Cup finals and their highest Premier League finish was fourth.

It certainly took some time but Klopp has now transformed Liverpool into serial winners, having won the Champions League and Premier League in the last two seasons.

Solskjaer can only hope that he is given the time to attempt to emulate that success.
