Man Utd transfer news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urges board to sign Mourinho target

Harry Maguire is ready to take Manchester United up on their long-term interest in the defender, clearing the way for a deal to be done.

The England defender turned United down last summer in the wake of the Three Lions' run to the World Cup semi-final.

Old Trafford bosses were ready to sanction a huge move for the former Hull City defender after he impressed in Russia, but Maguire was reluctant to leave Leicester so soon after having joined.

But now he is ready to accept should United return with a new offer - and caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his bosses to shell out for Maguire so that the club can build a defence around the 26 year-old, reports the Daily Star.

Solskjaer's eagerness is the surest sign yet that United's chief exec Ed Woodward will give the Norwegian the manager's job on a permanent basis in the summer.

Currently, the manager is due to stand down when his interim contract expires at the end of the season, but following a spectacular spell in charge it seems highly likely the club will concede to the will of the fans and install Solskaer full-time.

Maguire is believed to be ready to move to a club that is capable of challenging for trophies, and any deal could spell the end of Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo's United careers.

The England defender signed a new contract with the Foxes until 2023 only last season, placing the club in a strong position when it comes to negotiating any prospective transfer fee.

Maguire will likely be able to command wages double that to what he is earning at the King Power Stadium, making him paid something closer to £140,000 a week.
