A job centre in Oldham has been forced to close for a week after claims 10 coronavirus cases were reported in a month.
The Public and Commercial Services union said that a number of positive Covid-19 cases had been confirmed at the Union Street branch since the end of September.
They said staff who have been in contact with those who tested positive have been self-isolating and deep cleans have been carried out.
Union reps previously called for the office to be closed for 14-days to stop the outbreak from growing.
The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) have confirmed the office will be shut until next Monday, 2 November.
In a statement, A PCS spokesperson said: "We have called for the closure of DWP Oldham jobcentre after a 10th case of coronavirus was reported since the end of September.
"Staff who have come into close contact with those affected have been self-isolating and deep cleans have been carried out.
"Local union reps believe the quick succession of cases constitutes a Covid outbreak and that the office should be subject to a 14-day “circuit break” closure to stem the tide of cases.
A spokesperson from Oldham Council said: "Oldham Council’s Environmental Health and Public Health teams are working together with DWP Oldham Job Centre to ensure that their offices are covid safe."
