Oldham Athletic owner says he's 'never heard' of Wrexham's Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Oldham take on fellow National League side Wrexham in the first round of the FA Cup this weekend - and the Latics' owner has certainly stirred the pot ahead of the clash. Frank Rothwell took over Oldham this summer, following their relegation into non-league and the local businessman has won plaudits from supporters, as well as neutrals, for his straight-talking approach.

But now he has fired a broadside at Sunday's opponents. Wrexham were famously bought by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in early 2021. The Hollywood duo have sprinkled some stardust on not only the Welsh club but the non-league scene in general.

"I don't know who the hell they are," he said on the eve of the Racecourse Ground match.

"I know they're film stars and all the girls go 'whoo' but I've never seen anything they've been in. These lads have bought a football club for as cheap as they possibly could do so they could tell their friends in Hollywood that they own a club.

"When they decide they've had enough of this and sell to another investor, it (Wrexham FC) will disappear. That won't happen to Oldham."
