The oldest teen charged in the death of a 14-year-old boy in north suburban Old Mill Creek in August was sentenced to one year in prison.

Diamond Davis, 18, was sentenced Thursday to one year in prison and one year of parole, spokesman for the Lake County state’s attorney’s office Lee Filas said.

She and four other teens were originally charged with first-degree murder in the death of 14-year-old Jaquan Swopes. However, those charges were dropped, and Davis pleaded guilty to felony charges of conspiracy to commit burglary.

Davis, Swopes, Kendrick Cooper, 17, Stacy Davis, 17, Steven Davis, 17, and Curtis Dawson, 16, allegedly tried breaking into a car about 1:15 a.m. Aug. 13 in the 17600 block of West Edwards Road in Old Mill Creek.

A 75-year-old man who saw them fired at them with his revolver, striking the 14-year-old in the head. The boy was later pronounced dead at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The other teens were taken into custody on the Near West Side.
