Oldest Rangers season ticket holder passes away at the age of 104

Rangers have announced their "deep sadness" after learning of the death of the club's oldest season ticket holder, John Connelly, at the age of 104.

Tributes have poured in from fans from both sides of the Old Firm divide for John since the club confirmed his passing on Twitter yesterday evening.

With Rangers noting that "the thoughts of everyone at the football club are with John's family and friends at this terribly difficult time".

Back in 2015, John was rewarded with a special gift of his 2015/16 season ticket in the Sandy Jardine Stand by Rangers after reaching the milestone 100th birthday.

In a news release to mark the reward, which he received from then manager Mark Warburton and club legends Davie Wilson and Willie Henderson, Rangers noted that John has been following the side for more than 87 years, having attended his first match aged 13.

Born on June 28,k, 1915, John saw Rangers play under every manager other than William Wilton - the first manager of the club and who served from May 1899 until his death in 1920.

On receipt of his award John was also inducted as Rangers First fan group's first ever Honorary Member.

Our thoughts are with John's friends and family.
