Older women also enjoy age-gap sex

‘I am a woman of 71 who is enjoying the most wonderful lovemaking of her life – with a man who is several years younger,’ writes our anonymous correspondent, who is sick of the older man – younger woman stereotype. Photograph: Julian Hibbard/Getty Images

I heartily agree that sex doesn’t stop at 70 (Notebook, 27 January), but why once again is it the tired old idea that it should be men over 70 with young women? I am a woman of 71 who is enjoying the most wonderful lovemaking of her life – with a man who is several years younger. I am sure I am not unique. Sex when coupled with desire is rejuvenating and empowering. It’s not just the University of the Third Age and the gym that keep us going!

• As it seems HMRC are now happy to “negotiate” the amount of tax we pay (Report, 26 January), I have today written to them stating that I wish to take advantage of these new arrangements myself and have made an opening gambit offer for my own tax bill, using the Google tax rate as a basis for my own. I await their response with interest. The idea that we can negotiate our tax bills is preposterous, but if HMRC would prefer we do it this way then I for one am happy to oblige.

• English national anthem (Letters, 27 January)? If it isn’t Jerusalem, the best choice I can think of would be Yellow Submarine, with its welcoming lines “And our friends are all aboard, / Many more of them live next door”.

I believe I have a partial explanation for Marks & Spencer’s womenswear woes (Editorial, 8 January). Our local store is full of this season’s most attractive tunics and tops, virtually all of which have three-quarter-length sleeves. I do not have three-quarter-length arms.

SO BLOCK CAPITALS ARE “NEVER A GOOD SIGN” (Open Door, 25 January)? I OFTEN WRITE IN BLOCK CAPITALS BECAUSE NO ONE CAN READ MY LONGHAND. THANK GOODNESS FOR EMAIL.
