Older and younger renters: share your experiences

Are you a renter over the age of 61? Or a young renter aged 28 or younger?

“Generation rent” used to be mostly made up of young people scrimping away to soon own their first homes. Now, the label casts a broader brush as those from all ages increasingly find themselves renting. The 2021 census found that the number of households renting had more than doubled in the last two decades in England and Wales, with 5m households renting privately – up from 3.9m in 2011 and 1.9m in 2001.

The number of older renters has seen a particularly sharp rise. According to the National Housing Federation, the number of 55+ households in the private rented sector has grown by 70% from 2010/11 to 2023.

Are you a renter over the age of 61? Or a young renter aged 28 or younger? If so, we would like to speak to you. What has your experience been like? Did you expect to still be renting? Do you have hope of owning a property in the future? Have you got any renting horror stories?
