Old tram tracks have been uncovered on Smithdown Road, offering a fascinating window into the past.
The hidden piece of history was revealed by workers on the site of a new development where two four-storey blocks of flats are set to be built.
Gerry Bateman, who is a volunteer for the Royal Air Force Association, was in the area last week when he caught a glimpse of the historic transport system.
Photos taken by Gerry show the old tram lines which were found on the site of the former Smithdown Road tram depot, opposite Tribeca.
The Smithdown Road depot was Liverpool's second electric tram depot and opened in 1899.
In 1912 the depot employed 64 people and had a capacity of 96 cars.
It's not the first time that old tram lines have been found in Liverpool, with others being uncovered deep underneath a street in Old Swan after a water main burst last year.
Liverpool council decided in 1945 that it would phase out tram services in favour of buses.
The last trains to Penny Lane ran in the early 1950s, while the last Liverpool tram operated in September 1957.
Despite having fallen out of use many decades earlier, the Smithdown Road tram depot was still standing in the area in the late 1980s.
